Nanci, Feb. art plans San Miguel de Allende

Hello to my art interested friends and acquaintances and anyone who wonders what’s up for me here in San Miguel.  Tomorrow is Feb. 1 and I’ll be taking up daily residence at Blanca Garcia’s ceramics studio in the hills above San Miguel.  There are some 8-10 ceramicists who work there and I’m heartily looking forward to the creative stimulation that comes from working with others of like mind and media.

Since November I’ve been working at Tom Knapp and Dorothy Bell’s house/ studios (also up high off Arias in Palmitas district), which has been purely pleasurable.   They have opened and offered, literally, their personal store of various ingredients, artists material, ideas and personal experiences;  acrylics, water-based oil paints, printing inks, rollers,  a wide variety of brushes, pens, printing papers, and Tom’s gorgeous etching press for use, which offered me liesurely new avenues of  “printing” and mixed media techniques.    What a treat!!  Not to mention the perks of late afternoon cream of broccoli soup or Fetuccini Alfredo for comida!!

Tomorrow, Feb. 1, Joel Patlan, my builder,  will begin construction of an art studio at a “bodega” I’ve had for several years now down Canal Street in SMA.   By April 1 I hope to be working in said studio,  which will include a new bath, excellent lighting,  working and storage space, gardens, and lavadero.

It’s been an exciting, eventful, fruitful and more than interesting winter here in San Miguel de Allende!  Looking forward to the rest of it and the unfolding of new ideas and possibilities.  Next week  two galleries are visiting Sollano 34 to see my work, so it’s possible this latest “creative” spurt will have it’s own outlet and a good reason for continuing.
